Frequently Asked Questions

Why plan a Destination Wedding?

Did you know that a destination wedding can cost almost HALF of what the average person would spend on a traditional wedding? If you’ve been doing any wedding planning, you’ve already discovered all the little expenses that quickly add up. You’ve got to pay the organist, the caterer, the florist, the wedding coordinator, the photographer, the cake decorator, etc, etc, etc. The list just keeps going. The truth is, if you get married at an all-inclusive resort on a tropical island, they’re already set up and ready to accommodate you.

Many resorts have wedding coordinators on site who will work with you to ensure your special day is exactly what you want. They’ll have the flowers arranged and ready. The dinner will be catered by the resort staff. They’ll bake and decorate the cake. The alcohol is even included in one low price.

Today’s couples have friends and family located all around the country. So having enough time to spend with them during the wedding can prove difficult. Instead of just one evening together, a destination wedding can provide you with several days of fun in the sun with your dearest friends and family.

Why choose an All-Inclusive Resort?

A true all-inclusive is a resort that charges one fee for everything. This fee includes your accommodations, all meals, unlimited drinks (including alcoholic), airport transfers, taxes, activities, entertainment and tips. Some even include free weddings!

Because all of your expenses are pre-paid, an all-inclusive resort can save you a good chunk of money. Say good bye to fishing money out your wallet for every Pina Colada or burger at the beach. The all-inclusive package you pre-purchase also gives you the freedom to try new things that you’ve always been curious about like windsurfing or kayaking or different types of drinks or exotic foods. Speaking of food, the options can be endless. From buffets to a la carte, you’ll find a vast array of amazing cuisines.

Will my marriage be legal in the United States?

Yes, If you choose to have a “Legal or Civil” wedding ceremony at the destination. Each country has its own set of legal requirements that you must take care of prior to arrival.

Your Tropical Travelers’ Destination Wedding Specialist will guide you through all of the legalities.

If you choose to have a “Symbolic” wedding ceremony at the destination, you do not have to complete the legal requirements, but you must then have a Legal Ceremony in the United States before or after the destination ceremony.

My religion requires me to get married in a church.

No worries! Some resorts now have Catholic chapels on property, as well as other religious ceremony options available. Just tell us what your preference is, and we will find the perfect resort to fit your needs!

Is there a fee I have to pay?

Destination Weddings require a great amount of work. From choosing the destination based on many variables to planning the travel for every guest. The Tropical Travelers charges a $500 fee for all wedding groups. This is payable by credit card and non-refundable.

How far in advance should I send out save the dates/invitations?

As soon as you have chosen your resort and confirmed your wedding date with the hotel, you should send out save the dates. It’s a good idea to give your guests enough notice to plan for vacation time and make payments towards their vacation.

Many couples direct their invitees to a wedding website, where they post their wedding details and travel agency contact information.

How do I get my wedding dress there safely?

Wedding dress

If you are flying, you can usually make arrangements with your airline in advance. Some first-class cabins have small coat closets that can be used for bridal gown storage.

We recommend carrying your special dress on the plane, and not shipping it or checking it, just in case your luggage doesn’t make it to the destination when you do 🙂

Your hotel’s concierge and/or wedding coordinator can help with having your dress steamed/pressed upon arrival.

How much do wedding packages cost?

They range from free to several thousand dollars. Resorts generally provide several ceremony and reception packages. These range from zero to unlimited budgets.

You can even customize your package to fit your tastes.

Will we have someone on-site to help plan and also be there on our wedding day?

Most resorts that offer destination weddings packages have an on-site wedding coordinator who is there to help you with the essential planning that goes into making a flawless wedding experience.

You typically will meet with the wedding coordinator and the minister at least once upon arrival to go over all of the details of your wedding day. They can also help arrange rehearsal dinners, or post –wedding lunches.

Do I have to help my guests with their travel arrangements?

Absolutely not! You will direct your guests to your Tropical Travelers Destination Wedding Specialist, and their travel arrangements, hotel accommodations, airfare, and transportation between airport and hotel will be taken care of. We can even arrange private tours and excursions. You will receive a spreadsheet of guests as they book in order to help you keep track of your headcount. Your Destination Wedding Specialist will be the point of contact for your guests questions and reservation needs. If your guests want to customize their package (ie. additional dates, different room type, etc), we can assist.

We look forward to assisting with your special occasion!
